the one minute painting
i consider myself a somewhat crafty person. i love doing crafts. always have. but with ashton i dread it. there is so much involved in getting set up to do something with him, only to have him show NO interest and maybe do whatever it is for a minute or two before he is d.o.n.e.. then i have to clean up a huge mess with nothing to show for it. one of my resolutions was to stop being lazy about it and do crafts anyway.
so today we tried water colors. i got set up, dipped the brush in the water, then the paint and painted on the paper. ashton took the brush dipped it in the water where it pretty much stayed. no matter how much i tried to get him to dip it in the paint and on to the paper, he refused. he had more fun sticking the brush in the water. he then poured the water all over himself. when he lost complete interest, i took the brush and (what was left) cup of water away and showed him he could paint with his fingers. that interested him for a good 30seconds before he was over it. it wasn't until david got home that ashton was excited to show him how to paint. what the freak!? it's the only shot i got of him painting. i find myself (again) never wanting to do any crafts with him. i keep hoping it's just a phase but everyone i have talked to regarding their crafty kids claim that their kids have always enjoyed crafts ::pouts::. i won't give up. until ashton flips out that he doesn't want to do them at all i will NOT GIVE UP!!!
i have to return my lens tomorrow. i'm sad. it's been freezing cold here in texas with high winds so i didn't get to really play with it like i wanted to. today i tried using it for this diptych but my battery died. i know that the lens uses my battery so i had to switch to my not as awesome 85mm to take the shots :o(.
This time every year I have to spend my budget or the district will take whats left. So I go on a buying spree. This year I bought these paint brushes. These are Loew-Cornell Taklon Soft Grip Brush's. The kids were very excited because there are some of the nicest brushes I have bought for my classroom. The brushes have these soft squishy grips and the kids think that they can paint better with them. The handles are clear blue acrylic and I think that will be a bonus when cleaning them. I hate it when I leave brushes in water overnight and the wood handle swells and cracks the paint.
